How to Export Your LinkedIn Contacts

Can you still export your LinkedIn Connections in the new interface?  YES you can! Here’s the short-cut…Click to Tweet

In this article and video tutorial, I’ll show you how to export your connections in LinkedIn (including email address) to a spreadsheet or csv file. Once you know how, it’s very simple. However the “Export Connections” button is not easy to find – unless you know where to look!

Watch my 2-minute video tutorial below.

Video Tutorial – How to Export Your
LinkedIn Connections

If you don’t want to watch the video, here’s the Step-by-Step:

  1. On the top navigation menu, click the button that says “Me” (the one with your profile picture).
  2. Select “Settings & Privacy”
  3. Scroll down and click “Download your Data”

From there, it’s straight forward.  Just follow the on-screen instructions.

Want a short-cut?  Simply “cut and paste” the following URL into your browser:

Exporting your LinkedIn Connections can be useful in order to import or merge the data into your Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Applicant Tracking System (ATS) or recruitment software. Then you’ll be able to contact your LinkedIn connections directly from inside your contact management system.

In case you’re interested, you can read LinkedIn’s instructions for exporting contacts here.

Now for the bad news…

The Connections file LinkedIn gives you only contains limited information – First Name, Last Name, Email, Job Title, Tags.

If you want the full contact record, including PHONE NUMBER then there are several good tools and extensions available to extract that data.  Be aware that these tools contravene LinkedIn’s Terms of Use. However if you’re not overly concerned about that, and want to know more then you’re welcome to get in touch and I’ll do my best to help you.

  1. Hello Mark, I tried downloading the “Imported Contacts”. It was successful but it doesn’t have a first name and last name. Only the email addresses. Please advise. Thank you!

    1. Hi Vernice, LinkedIn will only give you those details for your 1st level connections. So if you’re not already connected, you won’t get the name etc. If those are contacts from Outlook for example that you imported into LinkedIn, they need to accept your connection request before you can export their contact info. Hope that helps.

  2. All I want is name, title and phone number.

    And that is impossible.

What is the point of having all these contacts in LinedIn if they withhold the phone numbers from being exported!!!
