Why I Only Work with People I Genuinely Like

Mark Whitby

Jerks, assholes, bitches… These are all the sorts of people that you do NOT want to be working with. My name is Mark Whitby from RecruitmentCoach.com, and I only work with people who I genuinely like and want to spend time with. I would encourage you to do the same.

The great thing about running your own business is that we get to choose who we partner with in terms of clients, candidates, suppliers, team members.  I don’t know about you but I only want to partner with individuals who I like, who I respect, who respect me, where we have values in alignment.

Some people give you energy and working with them you just feel amazing – you feel inspired, you feel enthusiastic, you love what you do. Then other people drain your energy. They’re the energy vampires, right? You don’t look forward to calling them. You don’t look forward to meeting with. You want to spend as little time with them as possible because you leave their company feeling drained and demotivated.

So if you find this is happening then I would suggest you set stricter criteria for yourself about the sorts of people you surround yourself with and that includes clients. I know that might be controversial. You might think that you can’t afford to walk away from business or you need to work with whoever is willing to pay your fee. I’m here to tell you, you absolutely cannot afford to work with people who you don’t like who are going to drain your energy.

My personal philosophy is I want to work with people who inspire me and who I’m excited about working with because chances are they’re going to feel the same way. You’re going to build a much longer term, more profitable relationship with those sorts of people and you’re going to save yourself from tons of grief.

Plus you’ll just enjoy your job and enjoy your life better. Doesn’t that make sense to you? I want to hear from you. Do you agree, do you disagree? Like this video and please do share your comments below. I look forward to hearing your feedback. Have a great day!
